The Karenni People

Help Karenni Worship in their own Mother Tongue

Picture
One of the most exciting opportunities for church planting today are among the Karenni refugees who are being resettled in America. The Karenni are located in areas where foreigners are not allowed to go but God has opened the door for these people from the 1040 window to come right to the doorsteps of American, New Zealand, Finnish, etc. churches. At Calvary Baptist Church in Winston Salem, NC, a weekly gathering of over 100 Karenni people (animist, Catholic, Baptist) meet together and learn about God. Whereas in the refugee camp, a Catholic or animist might not come to a Baptist church, the situation in America is a new opportunity. If American churches will seize the opportunity, it's a tremendous chance to love and share Christ with them. Here are a few suggestions for how you can help the Karenni refugees in your area to begin a mother-tongue gathering/Sunday School:

Kayah Songbook (Pray Reh Winlay)

I've also attached a .pdf of a songbook that you can download for use in church.  Someday it'd be great to have a hymnal but that is unlikely for some time.

Open Arms Refugee Ministry; connnecting churches with refugees

Picture
Tim & Jody Cross, who formerly worked with refugees in Europe, have started a ministry called Open Arms Refugee Ministry.  They are working full-time with the Karenni and other refugees in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Their mission is to connect churches with refugees who are right in their own back yards.  If you would like advice or help with connecting with the Karenni or other refugees, please contact them at cross_bearers@yahoo.com.  They are an awesome couple, doing wonderful work.   When the Kayah New Testament is published, Open Arms Refugee Ministry will be responsible for its distribution throughout the USA.  For more information, check out their ministry brochure and one of their newsletter updates.
