This is my first blog.  I just want to say a few things about the website.  I hope it will be helpful for resettlement case-workers and volunteers as they work with all the Karenni refugees pouring into the USA.   This is an evolving site so be sure to check in now and then to see if something else becomes available.  Additions may include further helpful phrases or a simple English-Kayah dictionary, Kayah songbook and hymns for church use and some recorded books of the New Testament.  I'm interested to get feedback to know what people are using and finding helpful and if there are other helpful resources or suggestions.

Hello,

I work for a refugee resettlement agency in NC, and I wanted to ask some advice about motivating Karenni cases. There is a specific cash assistance program which requires our clients to provide information in accordance with an agreement they have signed. Each month we meet with the clients, look at their information and give them a cash assistance check.

The assumption has been that, after a couple months, people would begin to understand the importance of this cash assistance for paying bills and buying personal items. However, some Karenni clients have chosen not to come at all. They have been shown what to do, and even successfully completed the task in the past, but the motivation to continue does not seem to be there.

Any thoughts...?

It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.
